Modular fashion refers to clothing items that have detachable pieces, so that one can easily alter the clothing item to suit changing needs and tastes over time. Thus, we implemented SWAAP concept to our eco-friendly garment that makes the difference as compared to other sustainable brands. Our main objective behind the concept was to offer a sustainable alternative to the current pattern of fashion consumption and meanwhile extend the traditional garment life cycle.
On the surface, there seems to be an obvious answer to why modular clothing has never really taken off: clothing companies would never make clothing that encourages consumers to buy fewer things. Fashion industry leaders are hesitant to invest in clothing production that may be more expensive and challenging than conventional methods. That’s just bad business! However, SWAAPZY took this challenge and started to work on it.
SWAAPZY clothing aligns with a few different aspects of environmentally ethical fashion design. For one, our garment made in a manner that can change appearances easily may encourage our supportive consumers to buy fewer clothing items, given its versatility. Additionally, enabling our users to affect the design of a garment may cause them to feel more emotionally attached to the garment, delaying its psychological obsolescence.
There are other benefits unique to SWAAPZY fashion. Its ability to be taken apart and reassembled allows wearers to replace only damaged parts of a garment rather than purchasing an entirely new garment. Our clothing may also require less washing, since users may opt to clean only the parts of the garment that are more easily dirtied. This is significant given that washing and drying clothing accounted for more than 13% of household electricity use globally, and constitute the largest source of energy consumption in the lifecycles of cotton and polyester clothing.
This fashion revolution may be challenging from a business perspective, but it is also an area rife with opportunity. We, SWAAPZY announced that we officially take up the mantle—and make SWAAPZY into The Biggest Sustainable Clothing Trend That Never Was.
